Summary
It was now nearly two months since the flyting with Loki, one month since the establishment of Chase Space, and two weeks since Chase Space’s opening day. Two weeks since the night when Magnus held hands with Alex Fierro, watched the fireworks explode on the roof deck, and agreed ‘this is good’.
It had also been two weeks since jotuns started invading Midgard, and two days since Magnus started getting a fever and a sore throat. This was not, in fact, 'good'.
Apparently, after Magnus and his friends defeated Loki in an epic roast battle and delayed Ragnarok, the giants and undead of Naglfar had been let loose, with no admiral to control them and no ship to sail. Jotuns and zombie warriors had started straying into Midgard, terrorising the occasional mall and ripping apart the occasional car park. Nine times out of ten, Magnus Chase and the rest of floor 19 would be sent to fight them, apparently because they were experienced einherjar, and totally didn’t deserve a break after stopping the literal end of the world.
The next time Magnus saw Helgi, he would have to advocate for some einherjar sick leave privileges.

Summary
Simon Aebischer has spent the last several years since being released from prison hiding from his past and quietly working toward his PhD. He has his lab, and his weird, fucked-up strain of mutated algae, and a promise he's made to himself to put something good back into the world after everything he's done. He's always assumed that "good" would take the form of meaningful contributions to marine botanical research that might, if he's lucky, do something to help their warming planet.
But then the planet stops warming. It starts to freeze. There's life in the universe besides humanity, and it's going to kill them.
Now there's a woman with red hair telling him he's going to be working on some kind of project. She tells him it's not optional, but he would've gladly gone anyways. He wants to do anything he can to help.
And anything to learn more about the kind-eyed microbiologist the woman dragged along with her to kidnap him from his lab.
