Summary
Shane is technically moving on.
Objectively, he’s doing great. He has a stable relationship with James, an emotionally healthy businessman who texts him good morning every day, folds laundry correctly, and somehow makes stability feel both comforting and slightly alarming.
The problem is that Shane has unfortunately never loved anything normally in his entire life, and definitely not Ilya, his ex-boyfriend, former secret, and current ongoing psychological condition.
Shane and Ilya broke up after the Boxing Day fight and have both theoretically moved on. Now Ilya has Alice and Shane has James.
Unfortunately, they are still completely in love with each other and handling that with the emotional maturity of two men who communicate primarily through hockey and prolonged eye contact.
-------
Or basically Shane and Illya broke up after the Boxing Day fight and they "moved on" but not really because they physically and mentally cannot fully give themselves to other people. -

Summer 2011 to Summer 2014
This is part of a longer series & there are things referenced in here that are directly related to the previous works. It is canon-compliant with the TV series only. The time period is post-Rookie season MLH awards to the summer of 2014 (all of S1E2). It uses no source material from the books. This is a take on all of the missing time from the show. What were they up to? How did they feel about not hooking up for two years?
During warm ups, Ilya noticed that Shane was near center ice doing his stretches. He decided he’d meander over and see if he couldn’t engage. Once he was a few feet away from him, Ilya said, “Hollander.”
Ilya bent over and acted like he was fiddling with the blade of his stick.
Shane didn’t respond. And Ilya couldn’t cross the center line to force the issue. Shit. He stood up, did a couple of circles on the ice and used the motion to move right up to the line. He tried to ensure that his voice was soft, but not overly emotional. He couldn’t let himself sound like he was begging. Even though he was.
“Hollander. Please.”
Shane still wouldn’t look at him. “Go away, Rozanov.”

Summary
Ilya Rozanov has had enough.
Three days of partying on a Caribbean island with his teammates has left him with a raging hangover and craving one thing: escape. So he hires a jetski, guns the engine and tears out into open water, leaving the bars, the noise and the women he hooked up on the first three nights far behind.
Until the fuel runs out.
Hours later, with no land in sight and the sun sinking towards the horizon, Ilya accepts that he’s going to die alone at sea. It’s then that he spies a small wooden rowing boat slowly making its way towards him.
Shane “Mr Real Estate” Hollander is a reclusive property tycoon on his annual survival retreat on a remote private island. These two weeks are his one indulgence to escape the pressures of corporate life. He’s off grid, surviving off the land and feels relaxed for the first time in months. Until he spots the jetski drifting out at sea.
There’s one bed, no phone signal, sharks in the water and a storm closing in.
They’re completely alone, together - until the boat is scheduled to collect Hollander ten days later.

Summary
Everyone knows Shane Hollander. Captain. Franchise player. Olympic silver medallist. The face of the NHL.
Very few people know Shane.
Cliff Marleau certainly didn't expect to become one of them after a chance encounter in a quiet hallway of a Vegas hotel. He'd only meant to make sure Shane Hollander was okay.
He didn't expect the day to end with Hollander's phone number, or to spend the summer exchanging messages with the man. He certainly didn't expect to become the one person Shane actually wanted to hear from.
Friendship was never part of the plan... but then neither was falling in love.
(Or: Cliff finds Shane having a panic attack, helps him through it and then everything goes from there)

Summary
When Shane Hollander is unexpectedly traded to the Boston Bears, Ilya Rozanov is furious. Shane's been nothing but a pain in his ass for all seven years of his career. Hollander is the only player Ilya can't beat or rattle, and he's thrilled for the chance to finally best his rival. He'll figure out how to play on the same team, but first, he has a score to settle.
But Shane's not exactly who Ilya thought he'd be. And he's hiding the real reason he left the Metros. And, fuck, his freckles are distracting as hell.
