Summary
She knew, on reflection, that she should have taken Kate’s face in her hands and kissed her and poured out every thought and emotion and dream that had been knotting in her heart since the night on the yacht. She assessed the probabilities of every outcome, the logical actions to take, the pros and cons of each path to follow. All paths but one ended in a kiss. All paths but one had a happy ending.
Yet something niggled in the back of her mind: a dark, poisonous thought that blossomed like nightshade and choked like ivy.
A series of snapshots following Kate's recovery from her near-fatal injury, as she and Jill dance around what has been said and what they refuse to acknowledge.

Summary

Summary
Beatrice had grown accustomed to all of it, had learned the small peculiarities of loving someone who had technically been dead for longer than she could comprehend. She had learned not to flinch when Jill’s teeth grazed her skin, not to question the strange comfort of those cold hands finding her in the dark, not to be unsettled by the unmistakable proof of what Jill was. If anything, those little reminders had become woven into the fabric of their relationship, as familiar to Beatrice as Jill’s sarcasm, her stubbornness, her infuriating reserve. They were simply part of her. Part of the woman Beatrice loved, and therefore, in some strange way, part of the life Beatrice had chosen for herself.
That didn’t mean she wasn’t surprised then and again by the peculiarities of a vampire.
