Summary
Wille first sees Simon in the dimly lit back alleys, where nothing is off-limits. The air is thick with the sounds of bodies colliding, the slick, messy echoes of flesh meeting flesh.
As Wille walks past a narrow alley, a middle-aged man with a round belly steps out while adjusting his belt. It’s nothing unusual, just another normal night. But then a curly-haired boy follows him out. He looks like he’s barely half the man’s age.
But it’s not the age difference that caught Wille’s eyes. It’s the boy’s smile.
The boy reaches out to the middle-aged man, a naive big grin on his face that doesn’t belong on a street like this.
"Money." the boy says foolishly.
