The expression on Eren’s face flattens out, white paint thrown over a brightly colored canvas, and Mikasa has a terrible feeling that something just fluttered away in the wind. That she just dropped a precious thing he wanted her to keep safe without outright asking. As if she’d given back her scarf and said I don’t need it anymore.
“Right.” He flashes a quick, unconvincing smile that twists strangely like his Titan’s mouth is trying to take shape. “I’ll find you... later.”
He turns and proceeds to walk away from her.
“Eren!” She cries, reaching out to him, hand nearly touching his back.

“Let him go,” Eren says from behind her. “He won’t understand any of this until later.”
