Summary
Eddie’s name tears it’s way out of Buck’s mouth - a broken, painful sound. His heart begins to fracture into a spiderweb of broken glass, the cracks reaching into the deepest parts of him where all of his hurt hides.
Then Buck is reaching too, trying to get to Eddie, to get closer - to do something, anything.

Summary
“Hey, Buck,” Maddie cuts in, soft. “Evan. Look at me.”
Buck looks at her. His heart rate is up, he can hear it on the monitor, and the nurse is looking between them with a raised brow. He’ll have to remember to apologize later, after he gets to his—
“They’re in the waiting room.”
...or, wherever he was, Buck comes back.

Summary
“Buck, I’m gonna need a lot more words here, buddy. Tie what for who?”
Buck sighs again, even louder and longer and noisier this time. “Eddie’s shoes,” he clarifies, through gritted teeth. “I—I usually tie them. For him.”
More silence, this time somehow more deafening. Buck inspects a stray line of grout until he can’t bear it anymore, then looks up for judgment.
Chim’s eyebrows are sky-high. “You’ve been tying Eddie’s shoes?” he repeats, strangled and high-pitched. “Regularly?”

Summary
It boils over once they're back in the hotel room they’ve been sharing.
There’s a buzz underneath Buck’s skin, an electric current that flows through him, like he’s still out there, ready for the next round of games. He's all adrenaline rush, making him feel hot and cold, shivering and shaking and restless as he watches Eddie, who seems to be in a similar position, flushed and buzzing, hair messy as he strips off his shirt and shakes his head, almost bouncing on the balls of his socked feet with the rush of it all.
Time slows, like molasses dripping down from Buck’s fingers to his wrist, sticky and sweet, as his eyes focus on Eddie's skin, on the flush that’s traveling down to his neck, his chest.
Buck looks up again, still nothing but potential energy waiting and wanting to burst out, and finds Eddie looking at him, eyes shining, glittering in the low light.
(Or, everything’s easier in a hotel room in Nashville. Even this. Even them.)

Summary
When Chimney walked through the firehouse doors, head held high with a cocky walk to match, Buck felt his heart drop to the floor. He knew Chimney was back in town, he just hadn't realised the man would be back at work so soon. With every 'welcome back' and friendly hug the paramedic received from various firefighters, the tension between him and Buck grew and grew. Buck had no idea what Chimney would do when they finally came face to face again, given that the last time they spoke ended with a black eye.
