Summary
Vex wants to respect him wanting to walk into Whitestone – Gods, his stubborn noble arse –, but she can’t help linger behind him, almost within inches of her grasp. She’s his shadow, and as she’s walking behind him at his double-limping pace, she remarks how she would rather be doing that for the rest of her life than not have Percy in it at all.
She feels the presence of her friends behind her, her brother. Vax is now supporting Keyleth, tapped out after her interaction with Orthax. Pike is ducking under the doorframe from where she’s slung onto Grog’s shoulders. Scanlan saunters to her left. Vex sees his feigned nonchalance; no matter how unbothered he looks, he never goes out of step with Percy. How tired she is, Gods. But she is safe, if only just for now. And protected. And Percy’s back, her Percy. And she can protect him. No, she will protect him. She’ll be damned if anything like this ever happens again.
OR
Liam whispers "Take him to his room!" on the campaign, just between mic audio and table whispers. Laura shakes her head. But what if Vex went with that?

Who watches the Watcher?
Gertrude Robinson left Michael Shelley to be consumed by the Spiral, saving the world—as far as she knew—at the cost of a single human life. She returned to a nearly empty Archive, the blood on her one remaining assistant's hands far more of a concern than that on her own.
And then Michael came back.
The Distortion couldn't do any real harm to Gertrude, and never really managed to do much minor harm in the years leading up to her death. But it stayed, and continued to do Michael Shelley's work, and so it was still working (for a certain value of working) in the Archives when a new Archivist was appointed to the position, alongside a fresh crop of archival assistants.
Perhaps there could be some merit to sticking around after all.
Or, season one with the addition of a fourth archival assistant, in the form of a Distortion that is desperately doing its best to keep these newbies from flinging themselves into death's jaws at the slightest opportunity, because archival assistants have no survival instincts as a general rule.
