It wasn’t really a big deal, just falling over a branch during his PE class.
Yet as he pulled himself up, no one came over to help him. His classmates continued to chase each other with screams and giggles, and his teacher was sitting to the side, conversing with another teacher in whispers, not even sparing a glance when one of his students became injured.
It was at that moment Akira truly felt the feeling of loneliness.
It was like a chasm of darkness, waiting, waiting, to swallow him up. He could feel his heart falling deeper and deeper, as his lower lip trembled and tears became to form as the pain started to catch up with his brain-
“You would truly let something as insignificant as this get to you!?”

His hand slipped, causing the door to creak as it inched forward. Aesop’s breath caught in his throat. He reached forward, barely managing to catch the door before it slammed into the door frame.
He should really get someone to oil the hinges soon.
His fingers managed to catch onto the door, pulling it back before it closed. He smiled in relief, before looking up.
The man from the painting was staring right at him.
The two looked at each other for a second, a strange night breeze caressing Aesop’s hair.
Aesop felt his heart jump to his throat, looking down hurriedly and closed the door as quietly as possible, leaning against it while his fingers started to pick at the seams of his nightgown.
He should really go to sleep. The weariness was messing with his brain.

And then the mysterious Black Mask enters the scene and muddies the water instantly.

Akira is Joker of the Phantom Thieves. Akechi is Black Mask, the dangerous vigilante who won't hesitate to dirty his hands for justice. These secret identities of theirs are in direct opposition... which makes things awkward since their real identities know each other, and are dating.

They were not thank you very much but Gabriel did not want to further provoke the God of Control anymore than they were about to.
“Well…,” Gabriel glanced over to where Michael was hovering, having also descended to listen in. The little shit. “An… unexpected... soul bond was activated a few days ago, and it was just brought to my attention.”
Yaldabaoth eyed Gabriel with suspicion. Or at least that’s what Gabriel thought that Yaldabaoth was doing, as the God of Control didn’t really have eyes but the weight of his gaze was definitely there. “What do you mean, unexpected.”
The cries of humanity fell silent.
