Summary
Six months have passed since Marinette realized she couldn't take it anymore. She couldn't handle the unending akuma battles. The constant lies she had to tell her friends and family to explain her frequent absences and bizarre behavior. The civic leaders who wanted to exploit her. And the people who threw tantrums and got akumatized over the dumbest things--panthers, baking techniques, ice cream, even pigeons--again and again and again.
So she quit. She made a few preparations, wrote a letter to Luka so the one person she still cared about would know what had happened, and renounced her miraculous and her position as the Guardian forever.
But that's in the past, and all Marinette wants to do now is enjoy a wonderful day with her boyfriend Luka while letting Paris's newest hero handle Hawkmoth for her. Sure, the new Ladybug isn't as upright as the old one. There's a few... idiosyncrasies... people have to watch out for. But she does the job. She makes sure Hawkmoth never wins. And even though Marinette doesn't especially like her, she's still happy the new one is there.
"After all," Marinette wrote to Luka. "She's the hero that the people of Paris deserve."

Summary
All Adrien wanted was to keep the peace and make sure everyone in his class stayed friendly. That was why he took the high road, held his tongue, and allowed Lila's lies to spread unchecked. He didn't think this was a big deal; sure, Marinette complained, but she'd endured just fine when he'd defended Chloe, so why would this be any different? And besides, who could be hurt by a couple of tall tales about celebrities and fake charitable work?
But karma is a stubborn thing. It can occasionally be deflected, such that a villain is protected from her well-deserved punishment, but it can never be truly stopped--especially when the Ladybug miraculous is involved. In those cases, if appropriate consequences cannot fall upon the villain herself, they inevitably descend upon the protector who upheld her lies, downplayed her cruelties, and shielded her from harm.
And by the time Adrien learns just what sort of punishment that Lila earned and that he must now endure, it may be far too late for him.
