At first, Lucy notices only the little things.Tim checks the locks twice before bed. He sleeps badly. He sits with his back to the wall in restaurants. He's constantly scanning rooms, flinching at unexpected noises and waking from nightmares he refuses to talk about.
Then Lucy touches his shoulder one night.Tim jerks away so violently that she stumbles back.The look on his face afterward breaks her heart.

They grab their burgers from the table, and Lucy lays on Tim’s chest as he runs his fingers through her hair. As they peacefully eat their dinner, the two of them finally get to decompress, sinking into the warmth of each other.
“I love you,” Tim says as he presses a long kiss to her forehead.
She’s about to respond…
And then she sees the clock.
12:00 AM.
December 9th, 2026.
Her stomach drops.
Shit.
Lucy feels heat prickling at the back of her eyelids, tears threatening to spill. She sniffles as quietly as she can, but of course, Tim notices.
