But one day one of them escapes and gets picked up by a strange Fellowship on a secret mission. It remains to be seen how much good has survived in this nameless elf and how much has been twisted by Sauron.

Frodo was not precisely certain what a hobbit in love was supposed to do. He had taken to staring at the ceiling while thinking about Sam’s eyes, and frequently reliving in his mind’s eye every time he had ever made Sam laugh.
In which Sam is Frodo’s first love, and Frodo has no earthly idea what to do about it.

Sam had always thought of himself as a very open-minded hobbit - but it could be that there was a difference between knowing that Mister Frodo did things, things certain other hobbits might say were unnatural, in his bedchamber, and seeing him there in his nightshirt with another lad’s hands all over him. In which Sam walks in on Frodo in a compromising position and comes to a realisation (eventually).
