He knew Troy called his mom every Sunday night even when they had nothing to talk about. He knew when Troy needed space and when “space” was the absolute last thing he actually needed. He knew Troy hated having people sing “Happy Birthday” to him. And he knew Troy’s favorite cake (yellow cake with chocolate frosting).

Troy walks towards his stall, slowly, eyes darting around the display, trying to take in every detail at once. The sheer number of photos strikes him, and as he gets closer, he can see they’re all of him. Him with Hazy, and Roz, and coach. Him on the ice in full dress, and another in just pads in the locker room. Him with kids at the hockey camp, and signing shirts in front of the Centre, and volunteering at the women’s shelter. Candid shots, too. He moves closer, his fingertips tracing one shot of him at a coffee shop, head ducked mid-laugh, sideburns longer than he’s worn in two years. Another is more recent, midday on the Rideau, his arms outstretched like he’s mid-pirouette. Hundred and hundreds of pictures, arranged so carefully, so artfully, that they tell a story.
He swallows roughly, blinking back the burning in his eyes. This is a very, very weird goodbye present.

Troy is absolutely sure Harris is going to take the job and leave him. It's what they both deserve.
