Summary
Autumn rolls by far too fast this year, and Minerva can’t help but feel an immediate shift in the air. She isn’t certain when it happened, exactly, only that, somewhere between one cold evening and the next, her feelings towards Severus have begun to shift into territory that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. She has always been fond of him, and she has certainly grown accustomed to his presence in her life, but this is different, and the more she allows herself to acknowledge it, the more impossible it becomes to pretend that she is just imagining things. And, of course, there are plenty of reasons why it should never go anywhere.

Summary
Minerva cannot be certain whether the castle has truly grown colder from all the atrocities it has witnessed this year, or if the chill lives only in her own bones—but she wraps her robes tighter around herself nevertheless. These after-hours patrols have become a necessity, carefully organised by the remaining Professors to keep the Carrows at bay. Or, at the very least, to try.
Tonight, it ought to have been Pomona's turn, but the witch has caught some vicious strain of flu and has felt rather poorly the whole day, so Minerva suggested she would patrol in her stead. These days, she can hardly sleep anyway—with her precious boy risking his life, hunting for Horcruxes, and Severus playing the perfect lapdog to the Dark Lord, slinking through these same corridors with that dreadful mark burning on his arm.
Thankfully, the witch thinks, the corridors are quiet, and she allows herself to hope it might be a calm night. But, of course—as if it could have been any other way—it is just a moment later when the quietness ceases.

Summary
Harry is off wandering through the town on his own today, and she knows perfectly well that he has done it deliberately, giving Severus and her some privacy without making a fuss about it. There had been a knowing look in his eyes over breakfast, followed by some exceedingly vague excuse about wanting to explore. Minerva had chosen not to question him.
Severus’ hand is currently wrapped around her waist, steady and warm, his thumb occasionally brushing over her side in absent-minded, almost teasing movements. Their feet are submerged in the cool Mediterranean water, the occasional wave curling around their ankles before retreating into the glittering blue expanse beyond. Their skin is still warm from the sun, and Minerva suspects that, once they return to the cottage, the afternoon may prove to be considerably hotter than the Spanish weather alone could account for.
A continuation of Chapter 10 of "slipping through my fingers all the time, I try to capture every minute", though it can also be read as a standalone.
