Summary
It is a truth universally acknowledged that seniors generally have little time for freshmen. Alec, as a freshman, is aware of this fact. It doesn’t bother him or affect him in the least. Until it does.

As he reaches the table, Alec gives him a slightly nervous smile, a little lopsided. Magical man (as Alec has chosen to call him in his head) glances at him, then turns to his friend, a young dark haired woman with white weaves and wearing a gorgeous red lacy dress that Alec knows Izzy would love.“I heard that admissions are really struggling to find quality these days,” he says, a bored expression on his face.
Alec frowns. Rude! He’s about to make a caustic comment along the lines of ‘it seems like good manners take more than a good education to achieve’ but Rude guy (yes, quick name change) picks up two badges (yellow for Seniors - ‘figures’ Alec thinks) hands one to his girlfriend/friend/partner and walks towards the ballroom.
“Let’s see if there is anyone worth dancing with,” Alec hears him say as he leaves.
