He was imagining waking up in the violinist's arms, sweat-drenched and shaking from his long, long nightmare, but safe, surrounded by warmth and pleasant smells. The violinist's grumpy mouth kissing his forehead, as the rising sun cast golden light across their modest bedding.
Such tender, fragile delusions... A part of Magnus enjoyed shattering them in a way that felt surprisingly human. A different part of him though he ought to feel a modicum of pity for this beautiful creature's suffering, and yet neither his mortal body, nor his immortal one had ever been able to alchemise such complex emotion. Must a naturalist pity the butterfly he pins? But he did envy it, the colourful elegance preserved.

She's thrown on the cold stone floor in the corpse room. The dead women of similar physique and colouring, staring at her in forever silent, crystalized judgement. Her rotting sisters, some already fleshless down to the bones. Naked. Undignified. Not stubborn enough to live.
As if in trance, Lestat's hand reaches for the pile of corpses to touch one of the hands, before she's dragged back, skin scraping against floorboards but not breaking anymore, not even bruising.
The creature pins her down. It is neither the same size nor the same shape. Teeth sink into her shoulder where her gown slid off too low, revealing her marble skin. It is not the same place and the fangs are all wrong. Much softer and hesitant palms grope her waist. A much lighter pelvis pushes against her ass. And the hardness, the unyielding pressure threatening to worm its way inside, simply isn't there.
Nicki can never ache with desire for her again, Lestat suddenly realizes.

"How else am I supposed to drink it then, silly? You don't like pain so I can't just cut you up and make you bleed for me myself, can I?" Vein's fingers traced a line from the bottom of Xia Fei's stomach up to the middle of her chest, as if actually imagining ripping her open.

It felt strange to have him in his arms again. It felt like coming back home. Yet, what was home but broken stained glass windows. There was a hurt wedged deep inside his chest. A wooden stake of his own making.
Louis closed his eyes, breathing in the smell. Old hairspray still lingering in Lestat's perfect mane of hair. Something so achingly human. Something so far, far away. His mouth tried to close that distance by placing a kiss against Lestat's temple but his hair was getting in the way.

Summary
The scars on Jiaoqiu’s back are just as wide and deep. It looks like flesh has been carved out of him. Debriding the wounds was necessary, of course, to rid them of the necrosis, but it leaves behind a sobering sight.
Moze finds himself lingering a little longer. It’s not an unpleasant task. He wasn’t able to save Jiaoqiu from the borisin, but he can do this, at least. And Jiaoqiu’s shoulders have lost some tension since he started. The sight may be sobering, but Moze feels peaceful, too. There’s no danger here. Just a simple task that he’s good at.
He wonders what it would feel like if it was just his hands on Jiaoqiu instead of the towel.
(Back on the Yaoqing, Jiaoqiu gets put on leave and Moze is assigned to watch him. He end up helping Jiaoqiu with some things. He ends up realizing some things, too.)

“You could do with a haircut yourself, your hair has gotten all gross.”
This is a bald-faced, absurd, criminal lie. It’s true that Takasugi’s hair looks extremely uncomfortable in this heat, much longer than usual and sticking in odd places from lack of care, and stuck to Takasugi’s sweaty skin. It looks uncomfortable and hot. Not hot as in weather hot, hot as in Gintoki wants to put a lock of that sweat-dampened hair in his mouth and chew on it for hours. Takasugi lets out these little annoyed grunts when hair gets stuck on his brow and he can’t brush it away on the first try and it is the cutest thing ever and Gintoki wants to lick his forehead. Gintoki’s imagination is very much into licking right now, with this heat and Takasugi’s skin all wet and shining like that, like it’s daring him to put his tongue against it.
