Summary
The Dursleys have had enough and decided well, since Harry is now a teenager surely he can work for his own keep and sent him off to get a job as they will no longer be providing him with his needs (not like they did that anyway) and surely he can start helping pay the bills. Harry fortunately found a job that is nearby, a grocery store. As Harry settles in on this new routine he gets used it until one day on the checkout line he runs into the last person he wants to see.
"P-professor Snape?"
"Potter!"
For Harry it appears to be that things seem to be getting worse but finds that perhaps this is the start of something good.

Harry stared at Riddle for a long second before he built up enough courage to face pain once more. He could do this, it would be fine. He could face pain — pain was fine. Harry had been in pain his whole life, he could deal with this. He’d be dead soon, and he wasn’t about to do anything Riddle asked. He’d rather die than allow Riddle to understand any of what Harry thought.

Summary
Defiance of authority and lack of respect did not source from Harry's arrogance, it came from something much simpler - love. The absence of parental love in his life made Harry remorseful toward those who should have cared. It was Snape’s turn to change Harry's mind.
