Ever the victim to fate's cruelty, Astarion was not out on the streets the night the Nautiloid took its victims. Wormless, Astarion is still Cazador's spawn and slave when the party finally makes their way to Baldur's Gate. Drawn to the city's nightmarish tales of vampires and kidnappings, the party makes a name for themselves sticking their noses where they weren't invited. No one speaks a vampire Lord's name without them hearing it.

In an alternate reality–in nearly all known alternate realities–Astarion exists not as a freed spawn or an ascended lord, but as a third, more lamentable entity: the unwitting love slave of his master. Compelled by Cazador, he is blissfully unaware of his fate and contented to live what he believes is a perfect life, until he is forced to face his darkest thoughts.

Summary
Astarion had felt quite clever to have found an ally so quickly on the beach there the ship had crashed. A monster hunter with a strong swordarm and an over-eager sense of charity, who couldn't see a vampire when they stood right in front of him, so long as they were standing in the sun. He'd felt so pleased with himself.
Astarion finds himself regretting that alliance after their first foray into the dark finds his new ally holding a stake and planning on killing him.
