Summary
This is a Sound of Silence side story. Think of it as PWP, but make it slow-burn and with lots of feels.

Summary
Once royalty, then a crime empire, the line of Durin now ekes out a living in an old apartment building on the edges of an underworld ready to see them fall.
Thorin, having seen his grandfather and father killed, has an ever burning desire for vengeance and to see their fortunes restored, while Smaug would prefer to see the job he started decades ago finally finished. Fili, while apperciating his duty to his family, would really rather attend the college classes he pays for and Bilbo Baggins...
Well he wasn't really expecting any of this.

Summary
Between the duty of nine lives and the dangers of a thousand worlds, Fili is discovering that the most powerful magic is often the kind you can’t perform alone.
--*--
In a multiverse of thousands of worlds, the title of "Chrestomanci" is a heavy mantle, carried by a nine-lived enchanter tasked with policed magic across the realms. These stories follow Fili’s journey from his early days as a distracted apprentice to his tenure as a seasoned, yet often exhausted, guardian of the law. As he is pulled through the "twisting darkness" between worlds to answer summons—ranging from mundane homework help to life-threatening blood magic conspiracies—he finds his fate increasingly intertwined with Kili, a magic-user from a world much like our own. Together, they navigate the blurred lines between duty, danger, and a connection that spans across the dimensions.

Summary
For a long time Fíli's world is small and simple. Something which he has created entirely by design. He keeps it to the hum of the tide and the salty bite of the wind. He keeps it to a life of quiet solitude broken only by the companionship of his dog, his best friend, Bryn.
Once, this had been enough.
Or: The one where a couple of strays accidentally domesticate each other.
