This is essentially a fix-it set after the events of Brand New Day, exploring how MJ regains her memories of Peter and finds her way back to him. But also, with a side of kidnapping (sorry not sorry).---
Before she could say anything or act at all, the man pointed something that looked an awful lot like the barrel of a gun right at her, and then she heard an almost-silent whoosh of air.
And then there was a needle in her neck. She yanked it out, staring down at the dart and then back at the man.

At the exact same time, MJ and Peter say - "But you have to try."
And both of them freeze.
Peter gives her a look out of the corner of his eye, soft and searching. His mouth quirks up into a half-smile.
Which is rude. She's still trying not to think about him. She's been trying not to think about the way he had cradled her face earlier when he saved her from the wreckage in Manhattan; like she was something precious.

(In the year after she finds out he's been wiped from her memory, MJ tries and fails to not fall for Peter Parker again.)

In his mind, Ned changes tack and pushes away the wind and the noise and the sound of Peter's panicked voice in his ear assuring him that it’s okay it’s okay please be okay; all of that dims around him as he concentrates on the pain. He plunges himself down into it as it crests and consciously pulls up more images like roots out of the dirt. Flashes of a bubbly woman with waist-length brown hair. A small cluttered apartment he spent more time in than in his own. Notes passed in class, doodles and in-jokes.
He can sense so much more underneath. He’s only pulling up little threads, flares and feelings, things that slip through his fingers. If he trusts and follows that feeling he was having in the first flash memory, of reaching out to Peter with everything in him, what will he find?
He digs his proverbial fingers into his mind and pulls.

Peter froze and his wandering eyes settled on a cobweb above him, “n–no it’s not.”
Ned sighed over the phone, “well what’d she say?”
Peter relaxed his body, why did it matter if Ned, his best friend, sorta, knew he had a crush on MJ. Of course he should, it’s not a crime to have a crush on someone in a relationship, especially if you don’t act on said crushes.
