Blue blood seeped from Connor’s lips, smearing my thumb where it pressed against his throat. Its head was forced back, tendons straining, LED flickering erratically between my fingers. Rain-damp curls clung to its forehead, stained blue, every overheated breath shaking the droplets clinging to its lashes, casting fractured shadows.
Every precision-crafted component that usually hums in perfect sync now convulsed and trembled under my palm—and the person assembled from those components stood before me, wearing a trace of barely perceptible grievance, saying : Gavin, you detest me. You always have.
