Summary
Neil swallowed tightly. ‘I think I tried to kill myself last night.’
Bee’s pause lasted a second longer than it should’ve, her surprise a heavy thing between them, but then she asked, ‘Can you elaborate on what you mean by “I think”?’
‘I mean that I don’t remember,’ he repeated, articulating each syllable. ‘I don’t remember what caused it. I don’t remember why I felt the urge. I only realised what I was doing after Andrew tackled me and pinned my wrists so I couldn’t grab the knife. I don’t remember, but I have to.’When Neil starts having vivid flashbacks of his time at the Nest during Christmas Break, Andrew urges him to talk to Bee about it. Turns out, his trauma isn't as easily repressed as he thought it would be—and the memories he'd managed to forget will find their way to the surface, whether he wants them to or not.

Summary
“What do you normally picture?” Andrew asked.
Neil wondered if this was flirting. He wondered if you could wonder if you were flirting with your long term boyfriend.
“You,” he answered, honestly. “Stuff we’ve done. Or stuff we’ve talked about. But I don’t really bother all that often.”
Andrew’s lip twitched ever so slightly. “And they say I never gave you anything.”
That was just patently untrue. Andrew had given Neil everything, including a sexual awakening. So then why did it feel like something inside of him was breaking?
Neil Josten doesn't swing, with one particular exception. According to the rest of the world, that's not how it's supposed to work.

Summary
He’s stopped in his tracks by an exy racquet swinging down in front of him, close enough that he can hear the wind whistling through the strings.
He drags his gaze upward to find a man he doesn’t recognise grinning widely at him, eyes hard and cold. He keeps the racquet at Andrew’s feet, preventing him from moving. “Leaving so soon?” the man laughs, a cheery lilt in his voice that makes the back of Andrew’s neck prickle.

Summary
“I'm pretty new at this,” Neil said.
Andrew scoffed, but when Neil stayed quiet, he glanced at him and raised his eyebrows. He was serious. “No one’s new at this at our age,” Andrew said, looking back to the road.
And yeah, okay, he was right, but Neil had only just learned the name of what he was. He needed to know more.
“I’m new at understanding it,” he amended. “I want better control of it, so I don’t hurt anyone undeserving.”
He wasn’t naive enough to think he could stop completely, but at least he could try targeting his urges to specific people, like what Andrew had done back at the minimart. That guy had definitely deserved it.
Andrew pulled up outside their destination. He took the key from the ignition and twirled it around his finger as he faced Neil. His eyes roamed over Neil's body.
“Famous last words,” Andrew said and climbed out of the car.
OR
When Neil's mother abandons him, he decides to find his mysterious uncle, hoping he can provide some answers as to why he has his urges, but when he meets Andrew, another Eater, those plans don’t seem so important anymore.
