Estinien's brain isn’t capable of stuttering anything more than “please,” over and over again while his lungs heave for air, begging Halone to grant him solace, just this once. You aren’t supposed to lose everything when you’re only twelve.

This time, he gets there a few minutes earlier.

This time, Halone answers his prayer.

When she's not Honey B Lovely, she's invisible. She used to be Haunye, but that girl died out in the wilds, buried with her family. So who is she when the camera clicks off, because Honey B wouldn't be caught dead in this and Haunye is long silent?

There's one person that understands it, though. And thank the gods he does.

    “He’s dying, you know.”

The Scions speak with their eyes. In truth, no one in the city dared to speak such words aloud, as if one could will the inevitable away simply by burying it with their tongue.
