“You’re not cursed. What you are is repressed. Don’t worry, there’s a cure. Go out and have some hot, awesome sex with someone who makes you feel good, and keep doing it until you stop feeling like you don’t deserve to feel that.” Buffy ponders it; she can’t be repressed, really. Repression is for, like, ex-Mormons and lapsed Catholics, and the crosses Buffy wears are more to do with the walking undead than any higher power.
Or, Buffy is cursed. She thinks Spike might be able to help.

“Did not.”
“Did too.”
“Christ, we’re not fit to be parents.”
“Y’think?” Buffy says, trying not to let the terror show. She’s so close to crying.
“I don’t think you’d look like a cow,” Spike adds. Buffy’s heart doesn’t flutter, but something definitely happens.
“Really?” Buffy asks.
“You’re always beautiful, love. Can’t imagine that’d stop while you’re carrying my child,” Spike says.
Or: Buffy and Spike navigate a mystical pregnancy.

Summary
Post-Chosen, Buffy's struggling to adjust to the new status quo of her life: no longer the only Slayer, but still The Slayer. The one in charge. Propelled to investigate a strange blip on the magical radar, Buffy finds herself in Duluth, Minnesota and much more than she bargained for.
Meanwhile, Spike has come back from the brink himself, only to be entirely at loose ends. No purpose, no guiding light, he gets himself out of LA and into a mess of, well, not hot water, that's for certain.
AKA, Buffy and Spike reunite in my home state and they hate it.
Written for EF's 2026 Challenge Month, answering werehorse's challenge of Spuffy vs. YOUR favorite local cryptid, which I've had my eye on for months. This has been a lovely excuse to get Spuffy to Minnesota.
