"Claire!" His voice cracks on it. Nobody answers. Nobody was going to.
Ryland turns another corner. The hallway ahead is choked with smoke that hasn't quite decided to be fire yet, and for one useless second he thinks about oxygen levels, thinks about it the way he'd think about calculating a burn rate, because his brain is like this, defaulting to numbers when there's nothing else to hold on to. He shoves the thought away and keeps running.
The dot is closer. Two more floors to check. He's getting there.

Or, in hindsight, agreeing to turn a CIA retrieval mission into a vacation was not Ryland's best decision. In his defense, Court said it was supposed to be a simple handoff.
