The man bends to root through a cupboard instead.
“I don’t have anything in,” he reaches into the shelves, half of him disappearing inside, “Not much to offer you in the way of hospitality.”
“Yeah,” she studies him, rubbing her fingers together. “Ghosts don’t drink, do they.”
A bottle of cheap liquor. He tosses it a bit in his hand, turning it, inspecting it, grinning at the label.
“Think I’m a ghost, do you?”

Vision blinks. It’s not the longest sentence he’s heard her say but it is the heaviest. It weighs more. It pins him down.
“No,” he replies, a bit breathless. “I can’t say that I have.”
“I have,” she says. He believes her immediately. “Did you know,” she continues, clutching at the bag in her lap, “that the heart of a star is meant to kill you?”

“Vision,” she grabs the wrist of the hand he frames her face with, holding him there before he recedes. “What… what are you doing here?”
“I’m waiting for the little Wanda,” he says as if it’s the easiest thing in the world. “Do you know her?”
Wanda wants to cry. She wants to jump up and down and scream, wants to hug him - and, at the same time, she wants to yell at him for making her sound like an insane person for the majority of her life.
Instead, she opens her dry mouth and croaks, “Vision, it’s me.”
-Wanda is seven years old when an imaginary friend falls from the sky. Eighteen years later, she finds him right where she left him.
