“Lucy,” he murmurs, and her sniffles turn to outright sobs. Tim holds her closer, like she did for him after he visited his father, and runs his fingers through her hair. “What’s wrong? You’re scaring me, Lucy. Are you OK? Are you… are you sick, or something?”
Lucy makes a desperate noise and shakes her head, and then she’s pulling back and shoving something into his hands. Tim glances between it and her eyes, swollen and moist with tears, and he doesn’t know how to explain what he’s feeling when his brain registers what he’s holding.
A pregnancy test.
No, more than that.
A positive pregnancy test.
OR
While UC, Lucy discovers she's pregnant. When questioned, Chris admits he knew the condom had broken.

Summary
‘Tim reads the same sentence three times before he takes any of it in. He’s starting on the next when he hears it.
Music. So soft that he half thinks he’s imagining it, until he’s looking left and realising it’s Lucy singing. Something soft which reminds him acutely of his childhood, of summers sitting on the back porch of his grandparents’ house in the country and looking up at the stars, unfamiliar pinpricks in the darkness which the light pollution chased out of the city. Tim doesn’t think Lucy realises she’s doing it, and it's so quiet that he’s pretty sure he’s the only person in the room who can hear it.’
