Them competing over everything had started the first day of university. Bokuto, who had been awaiting Hinata’s arrival, immediately locked eyes with the setter, as the duo had strolled through the gym’s doors, a strange fire visible in his golden orbs as he stared at Kageyama, who, slightly perturbed, glared right back. And in exactly that moment their relationship as rivals began, as neither refused to blink or look away first. Akaashi had to forcefully drag Bokuto away to calm him down, even though the ace had tried to keep staring over his shoulder as long as possible, not fond of the idea of losing to the raven. Later on, Bokuto had approached him, his expression slightly displeased and had congratulated Tobio on his win. Ever since then, they were competing over everything, even the smallest of things.

No one had spoken of the incident afterwards, until Akaashi had told them what had happened, during one of their studying sessions, causing the other two to jump up, their blood boiling with rage, ready to magic the hell out of someone, were it not for Keiji forcefully dragging both of them back. They had assured, reassured, and assured once more that they were fine and that no one needed to die, and once they were done speaking the two larger forms had swept them up into another hug. And in that moment, they knew they could always rely on the two brutes that called them their friend, whatever hardship may come. So, for a second longer, they relished in their sweet warmth.

But when he pushed his body too much, everything collapsed and he would be reminded of his mortality, of the short span of life he got to spend. So whenever the blonde would keep going, looking back from time to time to see what was keeping the ranger, then he'd fake a smile, hiding his weariness, his humanity. He'd try to reassure Legolas, and himself also, that he could keep going, whenever the elf suggested a pause, and then let out a forced laugh, but the blonde never bought it, yet said nothing of it, he just kept this worried glance in his eyes, he too reminded of the frailty of Men.

Silvery lines ran among them, some older than others, all caused by the sharp edge of a blade. The brunette's breathing sped up once more as he tried to not give into the urge, failing eventually. Red mixed with silver, creating a painting of emotions on the canvas of Lindir's wrists. Red eventually overcame silver, but was beaten by black, as that filled his whole vision.
