Summary
Nothing is as it seems. After a marriage law specifically targeting Hermione was passed, Severus marries her to protect her from the death eaters. Despite the circumstances, the pair fall deeply in love and actually start to plan for a future after the war, but then Severus is killed. Six years later, as Hermione prepares to marry Ron, she is shocked to learn that Severus is still alive and living somewhere in Germany. She is determined to find him and find out if what they shared was real.
*Severus was never in love with Lily. They were actually twins that were given up for adoption to keep their parentage a secret.

I looked toward the sound of Bree’s voice and felt my heart falter. She was ambling curiously toward what appeared to be a solitary standing stone atop a small plateau. I’d been too distracted to hear the buzzing, but it was clear she had noticed. And I certainly heard it now.
Raw adrenaline coursed through my veins, and I broke into a run, clamoring up the hill as I called out to her.
“Bree! Stop moving! Stay away from the stone!”
But she seemed not to hear me at all, and I recognized her slow but purposeful stride all too well.
