She gazes at the lone flower adorning her otherwise dim and solemn part of the room, a gift from a lively werewolf who had injected color into her dull existence. It was interpreted as a form of gift as part of their courtship, but the notion was swiftly invalidated by a scene she had witnessed earlier that day.
Wednesday stared at the flower, realizing that it was yet another consequence of her own imprudence. Now, she is obliged to endure the consequences thereof.

“Did I not tell you I was not to be disturbed?” She hisses as her father peeks around the door, closely followed by her mother.
“Apologies my little viper, but the most peculiar thing has happened.” Her father gushes with excitement.
Though she tries to appear disinterested, Wednesday’s curiosity is peaked.
“Well, what is it?” She demands.
Her mother floats closer.
“That darling little werewolf you room with, what was her name? Evie?”
Wednesday’s heart skips a beat and she struggles to keep her face neutral. Why are they mentioning Enid? Did something happen to Enid?
“Her name is Enid. You know this Mother.”
Morticia smiles. “Ah, yes, Enid. She was just at the door. We did try to entice her in, but it would appear she found us… frightening. I thought perhaps you might go and retrieve her?”
Wednesday blinked.
“Enid… is here?”

Wednesday exhales, uncrossing her arms. “You may.”
This fucking girl.
“Fine,” Enid says in a small voice, scooting back on the bed.
She feels cowed and decidedly not turned on, shoved as far away from her as possible against the unforgiving headboard. This was not how she saw her Thursday afternoon going when she escaped to find some privacy.

Still, maybe it doesn’t come as a surprise at all. Her predictability owes itself to her reluctance to be predictable which makes her all the more predictable in its irony. Her mother certainly acted as though she had seen it coming. Even now, as Wednesday makes her presence known beside her mother, casting a shadow on her seated figure, Morticia remains a picture of indifference.
“There are too many neurologists in New Jersey,” Wednesday starts, not bothering with the pleasantries.
“Too many, you say?” Morticia almost hums under her breath, taken more so by the flowers she’s tending to in their garden. Not one yet to fully bloom.
Or, where Wednesday Addams is a neurologist looking to practice in a small rural town, and Enid Sinclair is an author living there.
