Age and squalor had crept like a suffocating blanket over the halls and commons of the Ishtar Academy. Euclid-319, Warlock, Exo, hermit, would have been happy to lie beneath Ishtar’s heavy blanket forever. Some sentimentality compelled Euclid to wonder if the Vex had chosen Venus because of how time seemed to have been tangled to a halt in the ever-encroaching jungle foliage of the Ishtar Sink; trapped in fossil amber, somewhere between the fatal blow delivered and the moment of death.
Even the amber-slow and foliage-rich flow of time on Venus could not suspend him in wonderful solitude forever.
