Summary
Ilya, against his better judgement, is in yet another boring midsize SUV and on the way to none other than Shane’s parents cabin.
Ilya knows almost nothing about these people. He knows Yuna abstractly. She is an excellent manager, cut throat, a force to be reckoned with, and the woman who singlehandedly secured the majority of Shane’s impressive sponsorship portfolio.
What he does not know, and what feels most important, is how the Hollander’s are going to take to the “gay son fucking his rival thing”. To be entirely fair, it’s a lot to absorb in an afternoon. But Ilya is not concerned with protecting the delicate constitutions of the elder Hollanders. Ilya is worried about protecting Shane. Supporting Shane. Showing Shane he chose correctly when he chose Ilya, despite everything that might point to otherwise.
And so, Ilya is resolute in his decision. No matter what happens, no matter what they say, he will focus on one thing: protect Shane.

Summary
Two years after Shane and Ilya announce their friendship and launch their charity together Shane finally reaches breaking point when the Metros make it very clear they will never stop hating Ilya. Shane decides it time for a change and leaves the Metros along with making other changes in his life starting with removing his mother as his manager because he wants things that don't align with what she has planned out for him. Shane loses friends and makes new ones while also realising plans can always change. Ilya finally tells Shane about his own mental health struggles that Shane never knew about.

Shane was finally fucking done with the Metros. Two years of listening to his team-mates berate and insult Ilya every single time Shane was in the locker room for a game or practise had finally come to the point where Shane was sick of listening to it every day. Shane knew that Hayden hated Ilya but seeing his best friend join in with their team-mates and bond over their hatred of Ilya Rozanov made Shane wonder if Hayden had ever been a true friend at all.

When David first walked in on Shane and Ilya kissing, and Shane had to make what felt like a walk of shame to his parents house with Ilya in tow, he assumed that all he had to do was rip the bandaid off. There was no more hiding, there was no pretending this didn’t happen. The truth was out there whether he liked it or not, and he was vocal with Ilya about not liking it at all. But, he told himself, he just had to man up. He could do this. Rip the bandaid off, tell the truth, and tomorrow will be better.
He was really incredibly wrong about that.

Heck, he thought it was a joke at first, staring blankly at the doctor as the doctor he had been seeing for the past 3 years tentatively trying to tell him that he was pregnant at what supposed to be a normal checkup after winning Gold at the Sochi Winter Olympics.
