Summary
In the poor lighting of the sidewalk, Charlie could only make out a few details of the man. Sharp jaw, perfectly blond hair, and a Queen tour shirt that his music loving friend would've probably been jealous of.
“Nice shirt.” Charlie finds himself saying to the man before he can think better of it.
“Oh, um- Thank you. It's a friends. I borrowed it for the occasion.”
Even in the dark shadows, Charlie could tell the man was attractive. It was too difficult to make out any specific features but damn, this dude is hot. Hot? Charlie always knew he was attracted to men and women but in a small town like Forks, he never felt comfortable to explore. He figured that's just something that wasn't in the cards for him and his small town life. Charlie found himself squinting, trying to see any new details of the man who was now in front of him. Hm, when did he get so close.
or: Charlie meets Carlisle in Seattle years before the cullens move back to Forks.

Summary
Carlisle swallows, hard, eyes flicking away to stare back out into the darkness. For a long moment, he doesn’t respond, and Charlie lets the silence hang between them.
When he does speak, his voice is laden with emotion. “I only hope the person I am changing into is one deserving of your companionship.”
Charlie shakes his head, tapping the ash from the end of his cigarette. “My friendship isn’t something you need to work for, Carlisle. You’ve got it. Hell, man, you’ve got me. Whatever you need.”

Summary
Charlie and Carlisle are back to solve another murder. This time, a young man turns up dead in a shady city motel. When they look in the man’s wallet, they find a Quileute tribal registration card. Carlisle calls in Charlie for his connection to the region and to shield his presence from his once-reluctant neighbors.
But the case, and Charlie’s world, turns upside down when the detective recognizes the face on the autopsy table.

Summary
There are men turning up dead in the woods, and Chief of Police Charlie Swan has a job to do—figure out what, or who, left the poor bastards torn up as they are. Chief of Police Charlie Swan is too old for this mess. Too old and too sick of this shit to pretend Forks is just a sleepy old rural town anymore. Between the gruesome corpses and the quiet, unsettling doctor Cullen who shows up like a statue in pressed slacks, lying through his teeth, Charlie’s got more questions than answers—and no one seems too keen on giving him either.
Charlie’s trying not to notice how his breath catches when the doc gets too close. He’s also trying not to notice how the bodies keep piling up, unsolved. Neither effort is going particularly well.
And if one more person tells him it was a bear, he’s going to shoot something. Probably not a bear.
