Mira walked to the kitchen counter, every step heavy and weighted with the thoughts she wanted to forget. She opened a cupboard, shaky hands trying to hold onto a glass cup. She set the cup down on the counter, just as she had finally processed the information.
Because despite her mind being all jumbled and messed up, there was one thought that stayed as clear as a diamond.
Back then—just a minute ago. Back when she had lifted Rumi's sleeves, she saw something.
The ends of purple jagged lines, a hue she had memorized like the back of her hand. Unease settled into Mira's bones like an itch she couldn't quite reach. Her breathing, once calm and serene, turned unpredictable and erratic.
And only one thought circled in her mind over and over as the bile nearly made its way to her throat.
Rumi had patterns.
…It wasn't a dream.
