Summary
“Beirut ’88?” Nicky offers over the headset.
Joe sighs and risks a glance. Nicky meets his eyes for a fraction of a second, raising an eyebrow, before turning back to the road.
“Practical as always, my love,” Joe concedes and hears Nicky laugh. It is no secret this is not one of Joe’s favorites.
“See you soon,” Nicky promises, and Joe has just enough time to suck in a breath before Nicky wrenches his steering wheel and slams his car into Joe’s, crumpling the front passenger side and sending him flying into the sea.

“What?” Nicky yells back. He flew into JFK airport from the University of Genoa two days ago for a medieval studies conference and has spent nearly every minute since with Joe. Joe, who is a local and promised to show Nicky around. Joe, who Nicky has been emailing for a year, ever since Nicky read his brilliant work while researching for his own thesis.
