SPOILERS FOR BRAND NEW DAY!!!!!!
It started like this. He’d been in the city for the day when everything went black. As if his entire conscious existence had been snapped out like a light. And then he was back, gasping for air without knowing why he lost it in the first place. It was almost as if he had blinked; a temporary brain freeze had it not been for the screams outside and the emergency sirens wailing in the distance. That and his crappy cup of coffee had gone cold.
It continued with movie night; his comment about the kid's love for Star Wars slipping out almost without him noticing; and to be dreadfully honest, he may not have even caught it himself had it not been for Morgan’s innocent, albeit confused question of “who’s Pete” that followed.
It finds him barreling into the too small ICU unit a few hours later after a hasty explanation to his wife and an adrenaline-fueled apology to his daughter; his brain looping between three distinct facts:
Critical condition.
Spider-Man.
Peter.
Oh god.
(Or Frank Castle really just wants to know why Tony Stark is in Spider-Man's hospital room looking like he's seen a ghost.)

This work is expanded/adapted from ozhawk's Soulmate Shorts. I have used her beginning and added to the 1st chapter. In it, SHIELD has taken up residency in in Latveria, a small Baltic country of which Victor von Doom (aka Dr. Doom) is the monarch. Von Doom has offered the team assylum and funding--the only snag is the discovery of his fiesty soul mate.
**It should be noted in these Soulmate Shorts, that soul mates are born with the first words their soul mates will say to them tattooed somewhere on their bodies in the soul mate's handwriting. It's how soul mates identify each other.**

Summary
Nothing ever showed on Natasha’s face or in her actions that she didn’t let appear. It was a childish thing, to wear emotions on the surface, and people spent lifetimes either embracing or squashing it.
As she was never a child, not truly, she had to consciously let feelings bleed out. She’d always wondered what it must be like, to emote as a default.
The closest she would ever get was hearing Matt, this vulnerable man who had apparently put himself in considerable danger because strangers needed help, speak the words that were tattooed under her left breast.
