“The sea is picker than you might think.” The echo of a memory flickers in his head. “It senses your heart and ebbs and pulls accordingly. We as fishermen are merely here to receive, not take. Those that impose never sit well with the sea.” His grandfather chuckles as he rows their little boat out. It’s old but sturdy, the wood familiar to the waters. “Remember that, Hyunjin.”
And remember that he did. Hyunjin is dedicated to his pining. His offerings might be seen as amateur trinkets to the general market place but he is confident in his sincerity. Every few days, he leaves another. Never impose. He reminds himself, never hurling them brutishly into the sea but leaving them at the edge of the water where the waves may decide when to pull them under.
The townspeople are on different levels of skepticism towards Hyunjin’s newfound infatuation with a mysterious mermaid. Most say he’s lost his marbles, but the older ones sigh.
Every generation of sailors has a fool that falls in love with a mermaid.

Changbin shot up from his chair at the same time Hyunjin did. The alpha did it with a little more force, though, and it was the slightly awful sound of the chair screeching loudly against the floor that finally made Seungmin turn and notice them.
“Hyung?”
Seungmin still sounded confused, but mostly shocked. It probably looked like the two of them had been spying on him or something, but Hyunjin couldn’t find it in himself to care. Not when some random beta had openly flirted with Seungmin right in front of his face.
