Instead, he’s betrayed by his teammates and pushed to the forefront of a scandal that destroys his chances with any NHL team. Only one professional hockey league is willing to look the other way.

    Desperate to play, Shane Hollander signs a contract with the KHL, packs his things, and moves to Russia.

    Shane is playing in the KHL with Ilya right before Ilya starts with the Bears.
    Shane can't play in the NHL because he rescued a girl from SA from his teammates the night before the world juniors tournament and they turned it around to make it seem like he's responsible, and he hasn't told his parents what really happened.

    Ilya moved back to Russia after Vegas in 2014 to take care of his family. He married Sveta and they had twin girls in 2017.
    Shane became a hockey robot and never built the cottage. He got hurt in 2024 and moved to rural Canada... Where Ilya is now a single father to his girls and owns a bakery.
    Shane becomes Coach Hollander to the 8 year olds, and he and Ilya slowly work through their issues. Very, very slowly.
    Great OCs. Great writing.

    “GAF stands for Give A Fuck.” 

    Ilya’s eyebrows shot to the top of his hairline. “...What?” 

    “I’m afraid that Shane is no longer able to give a fuck.”

    After Shane's collision with Cliff Marlow, Shane damages the part of his brain where all of his fucks are stored. No longer able to give a fuck, he confesses his true feelings to Ilya, and says some things to his parents that he normally never would have dared.

    Shane and Ilya are champions. They are partners, and they’re in it for life. And people are starting to notice.

    After being traumatically outed two years ago, Shane and Ilya's relationship and their lives have been fundamentally changed, and most days, Shane thinks that's a good thing. But sometimes, the pressure of being out, and the endless online speculation about #hollanov, and rumors running rampant through the NHL, and a new generation of rookies looking up to them, and the knowledge that everyone is relying on Shane Hollander to be perfect at all times—sometimes it's a lot.

    But Shane's dealing with it. Ilya seems happier than he's ever been, and Shane just needs to get his act together to support his husband. He can do that. He needs to, and he will, if he doesn't crack under the pressure first.

    They've got a second Stanley Cup to win, after all.
