Summary
Penelope Featherington has been in love with Colin Bridgerton since she was a child, but she knows her love in unrequited. After graduating college, her boyfriend of 3 years, Harry, breaks up with her. She's not bothered by it because she never had any real feelings for him.
Still, she's feels undesirable. On her way home, she bumps into his older brother Ben who insists she join him at a club frequented by his friend Genevieve Delecroix. It becomes obvious that this isn't just any club. Gen is a dominatrix who offers to help her get over her breakup by guiding her through her sexual liberation. Benedict also willingly offers to help, if preferred. But can she allow herself to be so vulnerable, even with people she trusts?
Colin hasn't opened his heart since Pen's cousin Marina cheated on him. He was once a sub under Gen, but now he prefers to be the one in control. Colin lifts his hand with the cigarette to his lips at the same that his eyes open, his head turns, and he first notices Penelope standing there watching him.

Penelope can't help but blink in surprise even at just the meandering path of her own thoughts, at the idea that just popped into her head about what exactly she thinks Colin Bridgerton deserves at this moment and what exactly she'd like to do to make him feel better. Hyacinth explained with the kind of giddy smile only a teenage girl could credibly muster, while simultaneously leaning over the table and attempting to steal Eloise’s wine glass. Penelope, meanwhile, looked directly up at the ceiling, mortified that once again the entire table was weighing in on her love life. Could she not have any peace?
"Hmmm." Colin pretended to consider the point, but he was mostly trying to stop his lip from curling. He did not like Alfie Debling. What kind of stupid name was that anyway?
