Okay, maybe he's not entirely over it.
Oh, and Hugo is walking on eggshells around him. It makes Varian feel even worse. A few breakdowns later they figure stuff out.

Summary
Bǎi Hé had been twelve years old when her life had been irrevocably changed.
Twelve years old when cold and death had forced its way inside her body and used her as a living puppet to serve its own twisted ambitions.
She had been painfully aware of everything her body had been forced to do - from her distasteful expressions to her rigid posture to her cruel tongue - but she hadn't been able to feel any of it.
She couldn't feel her hands clasped together but she knew that they were, she couldn't feel her legs move but she knew they were walking. The best description she had for it was that it felt like she was a ghost trapped a millimetre under her own skin - unable to feel her body but forced to contort to whatever shape it took.
Bǎi Hé's story didn't end with the Lady Bone Demon.

Chapter 7 Excerpt:
Attacking monkeys was beneath him and in any case, it would cause him nothing but trouble to do so.
So really, the best way to prepare for eventualities involving those two was to get his story straight, keep his temper in check and mentally prepare his pride for the hit it was doubtlessly going to take.
That just left figuring how he was going to go about gathering data but really there was only one monkey that he had in mind to engage with on this ludicrous mission.
