Wolfwood’s voice comes muffled from behind the door. He and Vash have been bickering outside the bathroom where Meryl closed herself in, urgently whispering back and forth. She can’t understand most of what they’re saying, but it isn’t difficult to guess it has something to do with the blood on the handle and the hole in her side.
Or, getting shot puts Meryl in a position she hasn't prepared for.

Summary
It had always been difficult to distinguish between forcing himself out of obligation and simply being anxious. Kind of hard to tell when attraction isn’t a factor. But it was likely the latter. He proposed this himself, after all. As a joke! Mostly. Wolfwood just been watching him way too intensely, and, well… Maybe it was because this was Wolfwood of all people.
