“Open up!” The voice said again, knocking on the door in three quick raps. It took a moment, but he finally recognized the voice as…ugh.
Mercury.
“Venus, please. I just want to talk!”
“Go away!” Venus grumbled, cursing the slight waver to his voice. He doesn’t need anyone poking their noses into his business—especially not Mercury of all people. He turned his back to the door, willing his voice to sound normal enough to not raise suspicion, “I’m…busy!”
“Busy?” The incredulous reply scoffed, and Venus just barely restrained himself from punching the wall out of pure anger. “Venus, that’s a poor lie, even for you.”

“Why— do the Earthlings— do this?” Sun gasped when he got to them, doubling over with his hands on his knees. “It’s dreadfully inefficient. Why do they fight so hard against gravity? Is this meant to be fun?”
“Yup!” Earth rocked on his heels, eyes following something in a different tree before refocusing on Sun with a grin. “It’s also for the exercise. And the views.”
“Ah yes. The views.” Sun leaned against a tree, narrowing his eyes at Earth. “Lots of trees. And green. Very nice. We’ve seen it now so I guess it’s time to head back…?”
“We’ve barely started! And we need to get higher up to see the landscape.” And the planet was bounding up the slope again, knocking stones and stick out of their place. “C’mon, let’s go.”

His moons, who always said his name correctly and had wanted to talk to him from the start. Not by them.
This was perhaps the one time Uranus should have left them with someone else.
He teared up, fighting the wetness in his eyes despite the pressure it caused in his head, as he held out a single finger for his moon to take. Violenta, ever curious, took it instantly, giggling and nuzzling into the warmth of his surface.
Uranus wasn't warm. He was the coldest planet in the solar system.
But he was warm compared to their surroundings.
"...You deserve better, mate." He sniffed, trailing with the pad of his finger down her cheek. The little moon purred contentedly, wings instantly relaxing and drooping behind her. "You really, really do."

Looking for planets to rescue in the emptiness of space isn't as easy as the rogue planets made it out to be. Uranus didn't want to be doing this.
And he didn't want to doom his moons with him.
