Sonetto was not one of those who wore dog tags in the field. To do so would be to imply that she was an individual, that she was worth identifying. They meant nothing to someone like her.
However: 5 times those tags brought Sonetto closer to others, and 1 time it only made it hurt worse.

"She's been running a high fever for an hour fifteen or so." She knows this voice. It's the one with the green eyes. Her mother? Something must have happened at school.
A cool hand rests on her forehead, and Blackbird forces her eyes open. There's an orange dog and its yellow ball hovering over her. "Squirrel 'n penguins," she tries to tell them.
The puppy tilts its head. "Mr. Ulrich, are you certain she didn't hit her head?"
"No, that part is the most clarity she's had so far."
Or- Merel comes down with a fever during the end of the world. Things start to blur together.
