Ormund cannot bear to leave his little sister behind, fearing that the men of Oldtown might seize upon his absence to woo her. He has invested too much in keeping her pure to let such a thing happen, and so he takes her with him to Tumbleton, resolved to keep her beyond their reach.
Unbeknownst to him, however, his efforts have been in vain and he is leading her straight into the arms of a man she knows far better than he could ever imagine and for whom her desire has never faded. Nor, as it happens, has his desire for her.
