Summary
Rocky doesn’t offer false assurances or claims that everything will be okay. They both know the world doesn’t work like that, that life isn’t always kind. They both know that you can never truly determine what the future holds, that you never know what you’ll truly do, what action you’ll take, unless faced with the decision head on. Rocky doesn’t lie. He doesn’t sugar coat his words, and is sometimes too blunt for his own good. Grace loves him for it. That bluntness that pulls him out of his own head.
His former partners had told him before that he always had ‘his head in the clouds’ and they were right. They used to try to pull him back to Earth, to force him down. Rocky’s never done that. He’s always flown next to Grace, staying by his side as a grounding presence, letting him float but never drift too far. Lives with him in the clouds but keeps them both tethered to Earth.

He finds himself staring at almost the exact face from his childhood memories. Hypnotizing blue eyes behind slightly crooked glasses stare back at him. Sandy blonde hair tussled slightly, and that thick knit sweater with foxes on it. Mr. Grace has barely changed. Only now his sweater is faded and his cheeks are turning red as he starts to bite his lip, clearly growing uncomfortable with Mark’s obvious staring.

James "Rocky" Rockwell has to leave his dream job at NASA due to an episode he would rather not speak about. He moves to San Fransisco to begin his new career, and stops at a little diner on the way to his new apartment. There, he sees someone incredibly familiar, though they have never met before.
Not in this lifetime, at least.Memories come flooding back to Rocky of an entirely different life he lived. The universe has given him the chance to reunite with the person he holds closest to his heart. And the one who is currently holding him up on the diner floor, telling someone that he needs an ambulance. Rocky grips the sleeve of his cardigan, calls Grace's name, and Grace holds onto him tighter.

"Just to be absolutely clear," Grace says, bowling over whatever smug bullshit was about to come out of Ortiz's mouth, "I'm not going to be the other woman, and I'm not looking to sleep my way to tenure."
He's quite possibly still too drunk for this. Or maybe he's not drunk enough.
"I'm a grown man with a doctorate and I can make my own decisions," he tells Ortiz. "So, if you think I'm even considering it because I'm some—some sugar baby or—or you're looking for an easy lay because you're conveniently in another country, then you can take your napkin and room number shove them right up your ass."
It's not the most persuasive as far as warnings go. Grace stutters his way through it and he's moving his hands too much, but Ortiz at the very least doesn't try to interrupt him this time. He is smirking, however, the lift of it caught in the rim of his glass he takes a sip of his drink, eyes never leaving Grace's.
"Is that what you've been thinking about all these hours?" Ortiz asks him, conversational, like they're discussing bike lanes and Copenhagen's public transit system. "My ass?"
A week at the UNESCO conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.

[SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY SPOILERS!!]
He told him about how they used to know each other, in some other life that’s now gone to everyone except for Peter. Ned was over the moon to learn he used to be friends with THE Spider-Man. Still, it’s not all about being friends with Spider-Man—or at least Peter hopes it isn’t. No, it’s just the fact that they get on so darn well. For Peter it’s like he never lost him, sometimes he can almost pretend he never made the mistake of asking Dr. Strange for that spell that eventually came back to bite him in the ass, he can almost pretend the three of them went off to MIT together and now share an apartment together and… and… And well, for Ned it must be more like he’s just found a person he instantly clicks with. Another person he instantly clicks with. He seems to have a lot of those. A big group of friends he made in college, drawn in by that eccentrically charming personality of his.
OR
Peter's on that daily grind of being Spider-Man and getting beat up every other day while struggling to regain a friendship that he doubts is even there anymore. Meanwhile Ned is just trying hard to be there for him even though Peter keeps pulling away.
