He hadn’t told Rozanov, why would he? They’d exchanged their usual quips in the days leading up to the game, riffing about who would win, how many goals they’d score. But underlying it all was the knowledge that they’d end the night in each other’s arms. Shane refused to admit it, but that might have been part of the reason he was so determined not to get sick. If it was any other game, any other team… It had been four months since he’d seen Rozanov. Four months of convincing himself he would finally end it, while simultaneously counting down the days until they would see each other again-- until this game. “No, she, uh—” Shane ducks his head, avoiding Ilya’s eyes. “We slept together. And she kind of … she didn’t confront me, I guess. But she talked to me. Kind of hinted that she thought I might not be…”
“Into girls?” Ilya finishes for him.
“Something like that.”
“You denied it?”
“No, I— I told her. About me. About—us,” Shane’s head snaps up, a hand lifted in Ilya’s direction. “Not about us, us. That I’d been sleeping with someone. Another player. I didn’t tell her about you.”
OR: Shane comes out to Rose and runs toward the safest pair of arms he knows: Ilya’s.
