“SLUT!”
The word slammed into her so hard Hermione felt the world tilt. Spots were appearing in her vision. She struggled to keep upright and chewed on the inside of her cheek until all she could see was Ron—
He didn’t look ashamed, or confused, or even surprised at himself.
He looked…satisfied.
Like he was the one who’d been wronged, like he’d finally said the one thing he’d been holding in, the one thing he wanted to hurt her with.
Hermione’s stomach twisted viciously. She took a step back, air clawing at her throat, her fingers trembling around the strap of her bag. Her lips parted, but nothing—nothing—came out.
Ginny’s scream tore through the silence. “RONALD WEASLEY—HAVE YOU LOST— ”
Harry was right behind her, horrified. “Ron, what the hell did you just…”
Too late.
A voice cut through the blur and the noise, deep enough to rattle the very walls of the corridor.
“Weasley.”
