    He’d already been having a shit day.

    His soulmate mark, his Name, was hurting and itching on and off all day. His socks had gotten soaking wet inside of his shoes. Little unpleasant things had been adding up all day.

    The new kid, the scraggly young man named Sherlock, the one who had attached himself to the Yard, had nearly gotten attacked. Twenty-six years old and no sense of life-preserving instincts to be found. He’d had to step in, teeth bared, and fists raised. Now he had a black eye, Sherlock had a nasty cut across his jaw and a concussion, and he really had no patience for any of what was happening now.

    ‘What was happening’ consisted of a man in a suit more expensive than a whole year of his wages, tapping along with an umbrella that swung at his side like a bloody sword.
