Summary
The other voice in Nymphadora Tonks’s head was always warm, sometimes hoarse, and often quiet. It wasn’t her usual ‘thinking’ voice, the tone that sounded like her. This was a boy’s voice, and later a man’s, and though she didn’t know his name, she came to learn it belonged to her soulmate. Perhaps she’d be friends with him and bring him some happiness.
The other voice in Remus Lupin’s head didn’t appear until he was almost fourteen. That little voice, first childish, then whiny, like a teenager’s, gave him a reason to keep going. Although he knew he could never be more than platonic friends with the girl the universe assigned to him, he hoped that if and when they did meet, she’d be kind.
When the soulmates finally meet, they realize there's more than happiness and kindness at stake.

Summary
Remus falls into a deep depression after Sirius's death. After a rather rough moon on a mission with the werewolf packs just before Halloween 1996, Remus returns seriously ill, with absolutely no self-motivation to actually do anything about that to get better. Tonks wasn't about to let him drown himself in phlegm, though.
