Sure, it was a process, it was in the making for a while, Kai just never believed something like this could ever actually happen. Cole was so caught up in his rebellion against his father that their friendship became collateral damage. People grow and they grow apart but that wasn't supposed to apply to them too. They were the for-lifers, the beyond-the-gravers. It was them against the world until it wasn't.And now all Kai had left were memories and a whirlwind of emotions and feelings. He should've known high school was going to be a mess even for somebody like himself.

So when he started seeing his best friend under a different light after so many years and a new villain being after his fire power, he started to question if he ever really found his true potential.

To say Cole has secretly been pinning over his straight best friend for the last 4 years would sound ridiculous, though he wouldn't be able to deny it. Although he tried to move on, it seemed like his stone heart yearned for the heat of his friend's fire touch. After watching Kai date other women, an opportunity arose, giving him hope that maybe, he felt the same. But self-acceptance is messier than he remembered.Especially when friendship and a life is on the line.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” He’s clenching his fists around the dangerous thermometer, looking halfway like he wants to punch something and halfway like he just wants to go to sleep again and cry. It’s a look she’s used to seeing on her brother and in the mirror. “Why did you just let me send you to—If I get sick, what happens then, huh? Who takes care of you?”
Or: Whenever Nya finds herself in the line of danger (which is more often she'd like, in a world where ghosts and skeletons can come knocking at your door whenever they please and take your family away from you), for some reason, it never seems to hurt her alone. For some reason, there seem to be people who just can't bear the thought of seeing her in pain.
This is... less ideal than one would think.
