Norton can’t hold back his shock.
“Huh?”
“I’m serious.” Naib says it too casually, like he isn’t trying to encroach on Norton’s perfectly valid solitary lifestyle. “Travel with me. I think we make a good team, and I can see you’re just as much of a drifter as I am. Let’s at least keep each other company.”
For some reason, he doesn’t even think about it.

“Why not accept her confession? Is she not your type?” Eli asks with a smile on his face when Norton is done talking. Norton frowns slightly, playing with the love letter in his hands.
“No, she’s cute enough – funny too, but. I’m not just feeling it, you know?” he answers, reading over the sweet words on the pastel pink paper. It’s cute. And he’s flattered, really, but the idea of dating her doesn’t really sit right with him.
Eli hums lightly. “You get along pretty well though. Do you have some other reason you’re unwilling to go out with her?”
At that moment the door of the locker room opens, and the boxing team members start flooding out, ready to start their own practise. Norton’s eyes lock on them, trying to see if they can spot the familiar, short figure among the team. And he’s not disappointed when Naib emerges from the locker room soon after. His gaze follows him as he watches the older boy laugh and joke around with his teammates, and he hums noncommittally, not really having listened to Eli’s question.
“Oh, I see. I guess I should have known,” Eli huffs with a soft, good-willed laugh.
